Borrower's Cards

Welcome to UW Libraries! Apply for or renew your UW library borrower's card to check out items from all 16 University of Washington Libraries. Cards do not allow for remote access to online journals and databases. Some campus Libraries buildings are open only to current UW students, faculty, and staff. Non-Fee Cards

Some eligible groups, including current members of the UW Alumni Association and Friends of the Libraries, are eligible for free cards.

 

Summit Visiting Patron Cards

Current students, staff and faculty from Orbis Cascade Alliance member institutions are also eligible for free cards.

 

Corporate and Organizational Cards

Purchased cards are issued to a principal borrower who can then specify if it is transferable among employees.  Additional proxy cards can also be purchased.

 

Individually Purchased Cards

Anyone can purchase a library card!

 

Terms and Conditions

UW library borrower's cards are issued to specific individuals and may not be used by, on behalf of, or transferred to another individual, including spouses or children (Corporate and organizational cards are exceptions if specified).

Access to Resources: UW Library borrower's cards allow for up to 30 items checked out from the Libraries' collections concurrently. Cards do not include access to UW-restricted resources and services such as interlibrary loan and remote access to online journals or databases. Cards do not allow for access to all Libraries buildings. Some Libraries buildings are open only to current UW students, faculty, and staff. Check the Libraries & Hours page for specific libraries' access policies.

Card Management: If the borrower has an outstanding balance with the UW Libraries, the balance must be paid in full or on appeal before the card is created or renewed. Card holders are responsible for contacting Library Account Services to update their contact information if it changes.

Ages 15-17: Cards can be purchased by a parent or guardian for an individual aged 15-17. By giving their consent, parents or guardians agree to accept responsibility for all materials borrowed on the card, and any fines, fees or replacement costs accrued. They also acknowledge that the minor will have access to the internet and other material that may be deemed inappropriate for underage borrowers.

Agreement: By receiving a library borrower's card, the borrower agrees to abide by all library policies and accept responsibility for use of the card and for any service charges or fees accrued.

 

After submitting the application

Within 2 business days of submitting the application, an email will be sent from Library Account Services informing you of the status of your card or if further information/proof of selected eligibility is needed.
